Action Areas
IGTC’s work is driven by three member-led groups:
-
International Advocacy – Engages in global forums (WTO, FAO, Codex and others) to promote open markets, science-based rules, and a predictable trading system.
-
Electronic Documentation – Supports the global roll-out of electronic phytosanitary certificates (ePhytos) and other digital tools to make trade faster and more reliable.
-
Non-Tariff Barriers – Tackles regulatory issues such as seed innovation, crop protection policies, and maximum residue limits (MRLs) to reduce unnecessary obstacles to trade.
Read more below about what these groups are working on.

Open Trade
A reliable food supply depends on open and predictable markets. IGTC engages in international forums to defend rules-based trade and ensure grain can move where it is needed most.

Sustainability
IGTC promotes policies that support environmental goals while keeping trade efficient and predictable. Our Sustainability Principles call for flexible, science-based approaches that recognize different agricultural systems worldwide.

Electronic Documentation
Digital tools such as electronic phytosanitary certificates (ePhytos) reduce delays and improve efficiency. IGTC supports their full and consistent adoption to modernize grain trade systems.

MRLS
IGTC advocates for internationally aligned, risk-based approaches to pesticide residue limits. Predictable MRLs are essential to keep grain moving smoothly across borders and to avoid unnecessary trade disruptions.

Seed Innovation
New plant breeding tools are vital to improving productivity and sustainability. IGTC works to ensure that regulations for seed innovation are consistent, science-based, and facilitate global trade.

Emerging Issues
The grain trade faces evolving regulatory and policy challenges. IGTC monitors developments worldwide, identifies potential barriers early, and mobilizes members to respond where global action is needed.
